FAQ
Who should take this class?
Anyone in need of a creative jumpstart or meditation practice. Open to all levels of experience from beginners to working writers and artists.
When and how will the class be held?
Beginning Thursday, October 1-14, 2020. Prompts will be delivered daily to your email and can be completed any time throughout the day. Zoom sessions October 1st, 7th and 14th are optional, but encouraged. Schedule to be determined.
What is the cost?
Free, but space is limited to preserve the intimacy of the group, so sign up ASAP!
What do I need?
20 minutes of uninterrupted time each day (or more if you choose). Art journal or basic notebook, art supplies of your choice: markers, pens, paints, magazines—anything you have around the house will work fine! (No special products are required, but I have included a list below of some high quality/ inexpensive supplies available online for those interested in making the investment.)
What will I make/write?
Each day, I will send you a short prompt designed to get your creative juices flowing. Some of these prompts will be art focused with time to journal before and/or after creating; some will begin with a writing prompt from which you will then create a piece of art. The prompts will focus on inward exploration through writing. I will also offer specific ideas, options, and examples of each project. Students will be given the opportunity to share their writing and art with the small group and are encouraged to attend the three zoom meetings where we will discuss our expectations and experiences throughout the course, as well as any observations, suggestions, and or personal changes we have noticed along the way.
What if I miss a day or can't fit in 20 minutes?
That's okay! Don't sweat it. We are all insanely busy, and life gets in the way sometimes. On the day or days you can't do the prompt, write down one sentence in your journal as your takeaway for the day—"the moral of the story of your day," so to speak. Perhaps even take a photo on your phone to illustrate the lesson learned. There is room for some humor here, so have fun. (Also—Boom— If you do these two things, there you go! You just wrote and made art! Lol.)
What if I don't like the prompt that day or have a burning desire to write/ paint/ draw something else?
By all means, follow that inner voice towards your creative inspiration. That is the point of this whole thing, after all. And as we accumulate prompts throughout the 14 days, feel free to return to your favorites and change or tweak them as you see fit. The prompts are just ideas, not hard and fast rules. -- and by all means, share your rogue creations with the group. They may inspire someone else.
I have a small budget for supplies. What do you recommend?
If you feel inclined, the one item I would recommend you purchase is an art journal—this is basically an unlined journal with thicker paper to accommodate a variety of mediums. Here are a few I've found online.

Moleskin Art Watercolor Album
Midori Spiral Kraft-Cover Watercolor Sketchbook
