Five Goods Things Part 1
Instead of blog posts this month, I have decided to create short weekly lists of five things keeping me sane, distracted, and entertained at home. Here are my Five Good Things for the week of April 6.
1. Laura in the Kitchen: Potato Gnocchi
My daughter Lucy is planning to start a culinary program next year at University of Montana. She loves Laura in the Kitchen and talked me into making this potato gnocchi recipe with her last week. Honestly this was so easy and so much fun. If you have little kids, this would be a great recipe to make together. The gnocchi are fun to make and take only a few minutes to boil. Just remember to wash those hands before making the gnocchi!
2. Avenue 5 on HBO
A freak accident sends a space cruise ship off course, adding three years to the journey back to earth. This show is pretty much a parody our current situation. So funny and smart!
3. The Happiness Advantage: How a Positive Brain Fuels Success in Work and Life - by Shawn Achor
I read this book for a continuing ed class I took this month. While happiness might be a bit of a stretch for most of us right now, the principles in this book helped me to take small, meaningful steps to stay positive in uncertain times. If you’re local to Boise, Rediscovered Books downtown carries this book AND they deliver!
4. The Virtual Tip Jar
My friend Tyler Brewington started the virtual tip jar to give something back to the displaced servers and bartenders here in Boise. If you live in Boise and have a few dollars to spare, consider a donation. If you live elsewhere, try starting something like this in your community. Every dollar helps.
5. The Class
I must thank my friend Anna for this last one. This is an online workout that basically involves shaking your arms around and occasionally screaming. I signed up for a free 14-day trial and took a 30 minute class with my kids. We laughed the whole time and made fun of the instructor’s pretentious accent, but the workout was fun and easy and God it felt good to scream.
