Five Goods Things Part 2: Self Care Edition
Instead of blog posts this month, I have decided to create short weekly lists of five things keeping me sane, distracted, and entertained at home. My second list of Five Good Things involves all things convenient, indulgent, and downright necessary.
1. Insight Timer Guided Meditations
I’ve used Insight Timer app for years now as a timing device for my Transcendental Meditation practice, but since the Coronavirus, I’ve started listening to some of the guided meditations. Insight Timer is organized into categories like anxiety, gratitude, motivation, happiness, mindfulness and sleep. Some of the meditations are under ten minutes long and some are designed as a 10- 30 day course. Even if you struggle to meditate, these sessions will help you feel a sense of calm in these uncertain times. A few of my recent favorites: Elizabeth Gilbert’s talk “Facing Fear with Compassion,” Kate James “Releasing Anxiety,” and Fleur Chambers “Morning Meditation for Mothers”. The Insight Timer app is free, but a subscription offers unlimited downloads and special multi-day courses.
2. Charlotte’s Web CBD/ Melatonin Gummies
If you’re finding it hard to fall asleep these days, consider ordering a shipment of these gummies. I’ve used Charlotte’s Web’s CBD tinctures for about six months and recently switched to the sleep gummies. I fall asleep easily and wake up without feeling groggy. The recommended dose is two gummies 30 minutes before bed, but I only take one.
3. Green Chef
I’ve been getting Green Chef meal deliveries for about six months and now more than ever I appreciate having a few dinners each week planned and delivered to my door. Green Chef specializes in organic meats and produce. With five meal plans to choose from (keto, plant-based, paleo, balanced living and family plan) Green Chef probably has something for everyone. I usually get the Keto meals and add my own starch if needed, but so far the meals have helped us to eat more vegetables and branch out a bit in our produce!
4. Wolven Threads Yoga Pants
I don’t know about you, but I’ve spent the last 30 days wearing mostly sweatpants and pajamas. I finally splurged a few days ago and got myself a pair of these leggings and I can’t tell you how much I love them. If you treat yourself to one nice thing this month, get yourself a pair of these pants, I promise you they will make you forget Lululemon ever existed. And the best part: they are focused on using recycled and sustainable fabrics and packaging. Win-win!
5. DIY Scrubs, Masks and Spa Treatments for Quarantine
I’ve been living day in day out with three teenage girls for the past month, which is why I’ve been the guinea pig for quite a few at home DIY spa creations. Here is a list of our favorites! I’ve included links to masks, scrubs and treatments made with ingredients you have at home or can buy at the grocery store. I am loving the Strawberry Anti-aging Scrub and the glow boosting cocoa mask. Complete list below (and something funny for those who make it to the end of the list). Enjoy!
