Five Goods Things Part 4: Crawling to the Finish Line Edition
If your personal grooming standards have been taking a hit like mine, keep reading. I’m closing out the month with a final list of all the good things you didn’t know you needed until you spent eight plus weeks at home. Yes, that includes how to get rid of unwanted facial hair and a bra that feels like no bra at all.
1. Loreal Magic Root Cover Up
Thank you to my friend Robin for this great find. Ever since this quarantine started, I have thought about letting my hair go back to its natural color—whatever that is—but my three-inch grey roots aren’t making that decision easy. There are more expensive root sprays available at Sephora, but this one does the trick just fine for a fraction of the cost.
2. Calvin Klein Invisibles Retro Bralette
Sorry to my 3.5 male subscribers for this one, but desperate times call for desperate measures. If you have reached the “bra-optional” phase of quarantine life, listen up. I promise this bra is so comfortable, you’ll forget you’re wearing it-- until you realize your boobs are no longer getting caught in the waistband of your sweatpants. I normally wear a 36C and a medium works for me. Stay away from the Triangle Bralette in the same line-- for larger sizes it tends to overflow-- not in a good way.
3. Finishing Touch Flawless Women’s Hair Remover
Can we all agree that waxing salons should be considered essential businesses? Before you burn your upper lip with an at home waxing kit or bribe your kids to pluck those chin hairs now that your waxing appointment has been indefinitely canceled, pick up one of these on Amazon or at your local drug store. I have used this instead of waxing for about a year now. Not only does it keep my lip (and chin) free of unwanted hair, it has the added bonus of exfoliating my skin. Contrary to popular belief using this little shaver does not make the hair of your face grow back thick or coarse. Even if the waxing salon was open, I’d choose this little hair remover every time!
4. Baby Feet
Sandal season is just around the corner folks, and if your feet look anything like mine this is cause for concern. Baby Foot is a great at home solution to dry cracked feet in need of a pedicure. Just apply for an hour and in a few days the dead skin on your feet will start to peel. If you are a picker—beware, but also—you’re welcome. This was a fun at home spa treatment for the ladies in my house, not so much for my husband who had to endure a week of us picking dead skin off of our feet. Luckily, the weather has been nice so we did most of it outside.
5. Tony’s Chocolonely
I don’t know how to describe this chocolate bar in a way that would do it justice. Stella brought home the Dark Milk Pretzel Toffee version a few days ago and I had a religious experience eating the first bite. It’s like happiness and hope and hugs all wrapped up in a pretty blue package. Best of all, Tony’s is committed to improving conditions for their cocoa farmer suppliers by paying a higher, more sustainable price for their beans and investing in farming cooperatives that support family farmers in West Africa. Win! Win!
